November 2018

Triceratops, Brontosaurus and the ever popular T-Rex! Our dinosaur topic is endless in the exciting, engaging activities and adventures your children will participate in.

Without a doubt, dinosaurs are a popular topic for children across the planet. Something about these extinct creatures from long ago seems to hold the attention of young boys and girls.

Children can’t help but leap into a pattern of scientific inquiry when they look at these monstrous creatures! The children will explore several life science themes (needs of living things, meat eaters’ vs plant eaters,) as well as earth science themes (volcanoes, climate changes, etc.). You just can’t study dinosaurs without incorporating a myriad of science and sensory activities!

Our Dinosaur topic is also a great time to incorporate the mathematical concepts of measurement and scale. The children will certainly be engaged as they try to understand just how big (and how small) some of the dinosaurs were.

Vocabulary expands as the children learn new words for “big” to describe the dinosaurs. The Children will be encouraged to use words like “huge”, “enormous”, and “gigantic”. Additionally, you will be amazed with the capacity children have for learning and remembering dinosaur names.

The topic will be split into sub

topics:

Week 1 – Big/Small

Week 2 – Land dinosaurs

Week 3 – Sea dinosaurs

Week 4 - Flying dinosaurs

Suggested Activities for Home!

Tissue boxes make great dinosaur feet. Your child can paint htem any colour they like and transform into a roaring, stomping dinosaur.

Play dough is a great

way to help develop your childs imagination and creativity as they make their own dinosaurs.

Coffee Morning…..

To promote breast cancer awareness, we held a coffee morning on Thursday 18th October, with Doctors, medical staff and guest speaker from Latifa Women and Children’s Hospital.

The Latifa Hospital team consisted of:

1)A neonatologist

2)An Internal Medicine Consultant

3)An OBG specialist registrar

4)A lactation consultant

5)5 nurses

After a free health check up and opportunity to consult with one of the specialist the visitors were invited into the nursery for a presentation about Breast Cancer Awareness and self examination prceedure.

To bring the event to a close we all wrote our wishes on cards attached to balloons and released them into the beautiful sunlit sky.

Hocus Pocus Mid-Term camp……

Our Mid Term camp took on all the fun and surprises of Halloween. The children enjoyed several different arts and crafts, from batty bats to Sticky Skeletons.

They did not hesitate to get their hand messy as they explored the different sensory trays.

To round the week off the children were invited to dress up as their favorite character and come along to our ‘Hocus Pocus Halloween Party’.

Our next fun filled camp will be in December, starting on the 16th and running until January 3rd.
