Curriculum


At Monroe’s we practice under the Early Years Foundation Stage and British Curriculum. The EYFS is primarily based around four key themes, each key principle is then linked within the six areas of learning The Key principles and philosophies derived from the EYFS Framework.

  • A Unique Child – recognises that every child is a competent learner from birth who can be resilient, capable, confident and self assured.
  • Positive Relationships – Describes how children learn to be strong and independent from a base of loving and secure relationships with parents and or a key person.
  • Enabling Environments – Explains that the environment plays a key role in supporting and extending children’s development and learning.
  • Learning and Development – Recognises that children develop and learn in different ways and at different rates, and that all areas of learning and development are equally important and inter connected.

Monroe’s Nursery works in conjunction with you as parents to ensure your child is reaching their full potential.

How is this achieved? Teachers will observe your child as they act and interact within their play, everyday activities and planned activities. You will also be asked what your child does at home.

They will then consider ways in which to support your child to strengthen and deepen their current learning and development. When identified the teacher will use their assessment and observations to identify possible areas in which to challenge and extend the child’s current learning and development.

A weekly timetable for your child will be emailed to you and also available to view by your child’s classroom. If you have any further questions regarding the EYFS or British Curriculum please get in touch. Teachers will also complete a baseline assessment for your child showing an overview of their development and individual milestones. This is a comprehensive and detailed record of your child’s learning journey whilst at Monroe’s Nursery.
